Virginia Engineer Receives Award

Fairfax engineer Jerry Mrykalo has been named the 2018 Rising Star by ACEC Virginia, the statewide association of professional engineering firms. The award is designed to recognize outstanding firm professionals who significantly contribute to their company’s success and exhibit leadership skills that make them future key players in Virginia’s engineering profession. The award will be presented by the Next Generation Committee at ACEC Virginia’s Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on Thursday, February 1 at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond.

Mrykalo leads the mid-Atlantic Traffic Engineering Group for Dewberry, which is headquartered in Fairfax with more than 40 offices in 17 states. As group leader, Mrykalo supervises eight transportation engineers and acts as the engineer of record for major projects. He has served as engineer of record on more than 35 projects with a combined construction value of more than $1 billion.

Mrykalo has a track record of sustained success at Dewberry, serving as the engineer of record for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project (Phase 2), the Intercounty Connector, I-64 Widening and I-66 Widening. He was also the lead traffic engineer and engineer of record for the Route 27/244 Interchange Modification in Arlington which won a DBIA National Award of Merit. Jerry also served as the lead traffic engineer for the I-95 / Telegraph Road interchange of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project (2014 ACEC National Recognition Award project). He has served as lead traffic engineer or engineer of record on 25 Design-Build projects in Virginia, and has design experience in 10 states.

A 2005 graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Mrykalo attained several certifications after earning his degree including: Certified Professional Engineer status in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Georgia; receiving the status as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer, Traffic Control Design Specialist, VDOT Advanced Work Zone Traffic Control, and VDOT certified Work Zone Traffic Control Training Instructor.
