Ryan Beasley of Atkins was named as 2016 Rising Star recipient from ACEC Virginia's Next Generation Committee. Beasley will receive the award at ACEC Virginia’s annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on Thursday, February 4 at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia.
The Rising Star Award is designed to recognize outstanding professionals who significantly contribute to their company’s success. The award is presented to any professional in a firm, including engineers, planners, environmentalists, communication and marketing specialists, IT, Human Resources, administrations, project management, etc. Those chosen for this prestigious award have less than 15 years' experience, have become key players within their firms and hold the promise of future leadership in the Virginia engineering profession.
“The Rising Star Awards are a way for firms to recognize emerging leaders within the firm and acknowledge their professional involvement and civic / community activities,” explained Nancy Israel, Executive Director of ACEC Virginia. “We are proud to have this program to identify future leaders in our industry.”
Beasley started off at Atkins as a CAD designer while attending the University of Maryland. Despite the challenge of working full time in a demanding field while also going to school, he quickly became a standout member of the firm’s technical professional organization (TPO), overseeing CAD services for water, transportation, environmental, and civil engineering projects. He demonstrates a unique combination of both technical and leadership skills, including training colleagues and managers in CAD standards, helping improve CAD processes, and creating innovative solutions to complex design problems.
“Overall, Ryan has proven invaluable to the success of Atkins, especially in facilitating the adoption of technology by engineers throughout the company,” stated Terry Suehr, Technical Director, Civil Engineering Practice for Atkins."
