• President's Corner - June 2016

  • It has been a pleasure to serve as the President of ACEC/VA this year. I have learned a great deal and appreciate the leadership provided by Tim Groover and Bruce Sadler, who set the stage for ACEC/VA to advance this year in strategy, leadership, advocacy and education. I also want to thank Mike Matthews and Kevin Kokal, who both served as mentors for me over the years and dedicated significant time to the betterment of ACEC/VA. Thank you to the Past Presidents for their continued guidance and discernment. I look forward to handing the torch over to Paul Diggs. We have accomplished much this year and I am grateful that Paul will be our President this coming year. Paul brings a great deal of insight and charisma to ACEC/VA. We are truly privileged to have him.

Our end of year functions are two of our most attended events:

    • Join me at the ECVPAC Golf Classic on June 7 at the Foundry Golf Club in Powhatan, VA. This is a significant event for our Engineering Companies of VA Political Action Committee (ECVPAC). Proceeds from the tournament funds most of our state PAC activities for the next year. Your support goes to elect political candidates that embrace positions fostering a healthy engineering community. The ECVPAC works to protect and promote the political interests of professional engineering companies. A strong ECVPAC provides the engineering industry a strong voice with state elected officials. Please consider sending a team, sponsoring the event and come out for the fun.
    • The 2016 Annual Conference, held at the Hotel Roanoke on June 23-25, is an exceptional networking and educational venue. Dr. Richard Coughlan, from the University of Richmond – Robins School of Business, will speak on “Accountability”.  Along with the educational sessions, we have many ways to interact with member firms and colleagues, including the opening reception at the Roanoke Pinball Museum and a golf outing at the Roanoke Country Club. We will have a Silent Auction to benefit the ECVPAC and will announce the winner of the Bucket of Booze raffle to benefit the ACEC/PAC. The 2016 Emerging Leaders Institute will conclude on Friday evening with a ceremony to congratulate the hard work of this year's participants along with the induction of the 2016-2017 Board of Directors. View the program here. Thanks to our multitude of sponsors for helping us make this event a success: Ames & Gough, Schnabel, Wiley|Wilson, and Clark Nexsen.

ACEC/VA is in the business of helping member firms Build your Business. This cannot be accomplished without our dedicated Staff. Nancy – Thank you, thank you, thank you. You continue to orchestrate a fantastic organization. Cassie – Thank you, your efforts transcend communications and have positively influenced many of our key committees.
