| Is your child interested in learning about engineering? Or think they should do something other than watch T.V? Here are options for parents! The Math Science Innovation Center has numerous low cost engineering summer camps available this year for rising 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders. In addition, the Danville Science Center is offering the Design Squad Camp at their Summer Science Adventure Camp for children ages 9 to 13. The camps are first come first serve. LEGO: Machines and Robots 'Learn to build with LEGO building blocks using wheels and axles and gears. Learn how to use the different LEGO blocks to build strong machines and vehicles. Working in teams, build and test remote control vehicles for exploring an alien planet. Finally, build and program robots to operate on their own on this alien world.' Choose one date: July 13 ' 17 or July 27 - 31 Time: 9 am - 12 noon or 1 - 4 pm Fee: $100 Architectural Design 'Designers of a city use planning, teamwork and an understanding of the key components of architecture to build a metropolis like our capital city. Discover the historic and modern elements of architecture used in the building of Richmond through city tours and visits to local museums. Use these components to design blueprints and build your own model of an urban building incorporating 'green architecture' elements!' Date: July 27 - 31 Time: 9 am - 12 noon or 1 - 4 pm Fee: $100 Engineering Extravaganza 'Use our new knowledge to design, build and test an enormous skyscraper, a super sturdy bridge, a wooden tunnel/bridge, a shoebox dam, and a straw dome. Join in the fun and test your engineering ability.' Date: July 13 - 17 Time: 9 am - 12 noon or 1 - 4 pm Fee: $100 |
