• ACEC 2015 Fall Conference

  • I just returned from the ACEC Fall Conference in Boston, and I thought you might be interested in a couple of the highlights.

The key note speakers continue to be some of the best I’ve ever heard.  We had an unbelievably detailed presentation by Doris Kearns Goodwin about leadership in the White House.  I know it sounds like an oxymoron, but she did not mention any of the recent inhabitants!  That was followed by a presentation by Dr. Robert Ballard, a world-famous oceanic explorer.  He is the one who finally located the Titanic on the bottom of the Atlantic, but that was not what he was really looking for.  If you were in Boston, you would know the rest of his fascinating story.

If you have ever attended any of the CEO Roundtables, you would know that they are by themselves worth the effort to attend.  Everything else is just a bonus.  In my case, my firm also won a Business Management Assessment from June Jewell of AEC Business Solutions.  I am told that this assessment is worth over $3,500, and will provide invaluable feedback about our effectiveness in nine areas by People, Processes and Technology.

Lastly, the Senior Executives Institute (SEI) network is always strong at these events.  I was able to spend some quality time with two of my classmates, as well as chat with several other SEI graduates about various business issues.  The value of these personal connections is worth every bit of the time and money it takes to get to the conference.

I hope to see you at the next one!
